BOSWELL, CATHERINE
BOSWELL, CATHERINE
FLORIDA
I make pots in terracotta with a wheel, a rolling pin and sometimes a cheese cutter and Q-tips. They are meant to be used, for savories or sweets, flowers or candles, giving fullness to moments in the day.

My work explores desire, longing, and surrender. It has become my garden, a place where memories of childhood in coastal Florida and time spent abroad are distilled. A thin dark line echoes the scrolled ironwork of an English square, a snake flows like water, and a flower in bloom recalls a place thick with wildflowers, blackberries and prickling burrs. I am interested in exploring the tension between the wild and the refined, and in striking a balance between simplicity and adornment. I hope that my work appeals in a visceral, familiar way, ultimately finding a life of its own in another’s hands.
