The Fatboy original is now available with two Marimekko designs, Unikko and Kaivo. Both were designed by Maija Isola in 1964. The Marimekko corporation is a leading Finnish textile and clothing design company that was established in 1951. Strong and distinctive product design is the cornerstone of Marimekko's operations and corporate culture.
Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, had publicly said that Marimekko would not print floral designs. In her opinion, natural flowers were so beautiful that they should not be used as motifs on fabrics. Maija Isola, however, refused to accept any rules or restrictions. She surprised Armi Ratia by drawing and painting a series of exuberant floral patterns, one of which was Unikko.
