Masahiro Mori was born in 1927 In Saga prefecture, which is also the birthplace of Porcelain in Japan. Mori studied ceramics and ceramic design at various institutions before taking a position with Hakusan porcelain company, Nagasaki, in 1956. It was there that he redesigned how the Japanese tabletop looks. Mori's design is very simple yet functional in daily life. His famous “type G soy sauce pot” is still popular even though it came out more than 40 years ago. It won the first good design prize of the Japan design committee. He has won awards at the Faenza International ceramic art exhibition in Italy and at the Valencia International industrial design exhibition in Spain. In Japan, he won “Good Design Awards” for more than 100 pieces of his work. “My pleasure as a designer is to conceive of forms for daily use, and to create pieces for production in the factory so that many people can appreciate and enjoy them.”
