I create complex functional objects that move, both visually and physically, in a contained yet dynamic way. By carving, brushing, and etching movement and energy into my pieces, I animate the surfaces with fine linear patterns. I intend for the user to be intrigued by this sense of energy, to be drawn in by the nuances of the pieces, and I look forward to my work finding a special place among the user’s possessions.
The yunomis for this show reveal a new direction, both in decoration, with the panels and spirals, and in the strong colors, with a foray into oxidation. Setting aside the subtle celadon glazes I typically use on my work, I have come forward with glowing and unexpected colors which increase the volume on my work.
